Scam: Online Marketplace Scam – Gumtree
Seeking her dream puppy, a French Bulldog, Renee responded to a Gumtree ad offering the pet for $4,000. She engaged with the seller, who provided videos and images of the puppy, creating excitement while awaiting its arrival. In good faith, Renee paid a $1,000 deposit, but communication abruptly ceased, and she realised she had been scammed. After reporting the incident to her bank, Renee was disappointed by their lack of assistance in recovering her funds.
