Scam: Identity Theft

After receiving an email notification from PayPal alerting him that his mobile number had been changed, Ben realised his account had been hacked. He tried to access his PayPal through a web browser on his phone but was locked out by the scammer who was simultaneously updating his account details.

Switching to the PayPal app, Ben managed to remove all credit cards linked to his account. However, he noticed that the hacker was adding unknown credit card details to his account before being locked out of the app. Unable to log a case with the PayPal Resolution Centre due to his changed email address and contact number, and as it was a Saturday he couldnt get in contact with anyone until the following Monday leaving ample time for the scammers to use his identity.
